I found Born Under a Million Shadows by Andrea Busfield easy to get into and hard to put down. The story is told by Fawad, an Afgan boy whose family has suffered hardships and losses. Fawad lives with his mother and needs to beg for money on the streets. Their lives change for the better when his mom gets a job as a housekeeper at a foreigner's residence. The book follows Fawad, his mom and the foreigners Georgie, James and May - who are all also struggling with their own problems.
Fawad is very sympathetic, sweet and humorous, so it's a joy reading the book which is told from his point of view. Some of the characters are somewhat stereotypical but don't let that get you down! Life is hard but there are joys in between the sorrows. I loved this book!
