The Kendalls seem to be a normal, happy family - there's the stay-at-home mom, Kate, her accountant husband Felix and three children. The family is well off, they live comfortably in a respected neighbourhood and on top of that Kate and Felix are still very much in love with each other. When Kate is travelling home from Canada, she learns that her husband of 27 years has disappeared and is wanted by the authorities for money laundering. As you can imagine, Kate's life is thrown off course and she struggles to understand who the man she thought was her reliable husband really is. Why has Felix endangered so much for money they didn't need?
I really enjoyed this book! It might not be the most original story but Morrall writes in a manner that kept me interested all the way. I was facinated to hear what had happened to Felix to make him do a vanishing act on his family and at the next moment rooting for Kate to pull through with her kids. It's a book that has you feeling compassion for all the characters and wondering about the age-old question - how well can you really know another person?
